Off to Townsville
This morning was very early for me. Sid had friends over for the weekend and they all went out drinking. I stayed back to do laundry and get ready for my trip. At 3am as I was finishing up packing, they arrived back, but it wasn't all that bad. I got up at 6:45 as I had to be down at reception by 8:00am for my shuttle to the Airport.
The arrival at the airport and check-in were painless. However, I am a little concerned that I was able to get on the plane without ever showing ID. I checked-in online. When I arrived at the airport, I showed my boarding pass and gave them my one bag I was checking. From there, I proceeded to the plane and got on. Strange for someone in the US. Another oddity was that the plane was boarded from the back and front. People in rows 13 to 24 were asked to take the stairs on the jetway (aerobridge) down to the tarmac and board using an open movable stairway at the back of the plane. I thought it was fun, but I do prefer the jetway.
When I arrived at Townsville, I found the airport to be almost identical to Flint Bishop. This made it extremely easy for me to navigate. Also, the airport is half civilian and half military. I thought this is a smart use of resources.
I took a shuttle out to James Cook University to meet up with Theresa. I was glad to see here. That night, we went grocery shopping to get all the stuff we wanted to eat that weekend. This meant a 30 minute bike ride each way. I was tired when we got back from the ride and carrying all the groceries.
How I almost died today:
1. Exhaustion from the bike ride back to campus with tons of groceries.
2. Stopped breathing as my allergies were acting up
Thursday.... My Friday
Well... Today was my Friday as tomorrow is my flight up to Townsville. I am so excited.
Plus, this trip has an added benefit of being away from the two guests that my roommate is storing in the room. One is his friend, and one is someone he doesn't know. But he is a friend of Sid's friend.
Work today was fun... A lot of the office went out to lunch together, but I had already been to lunch by the time they went. Oh well... As for coding, I am on a new project.
How I almost died today:
1. Claustrophobia from a workless roommate
2. Claustrophobia from two additional guests in a room smaller than Albion's rooms.
The Big Wednesday
Well, I am not really sure how big it is, but I felt like calling it that.
My internship was extremely successful, I created and troubleshooted ColdFusion code without help. Moreover, the page is the equivalent of 5 pages, but it uses forms and "if" statements to put it all on one page.
(May not seem like a big deal to my readers, but it was to me at the time as this is a new language for me)
The evening sucked... It was so hot, I came back to the room and slept after class. Even class was to the point that I wanted to sleep. Air conditioning is something I can just hope for at the moment... For those where it is getting cold, I will trade about 15 Degrees of my heat for 15 Degrees of your cold... That way I will be at about 70.
Other news... Sid (roommate) had an interview (finally) and starts interning next week... Yay for him, yay for me. He will actually have some of a life now.
I think I am going to get picked up and carried away by the flies here. They are bad! I just wish they would leave me alone!
How I almost died today:
1. Carried away by flies
2. Dinner for flies.
I need a catchy title... Last week I had good titles..
Today was good. While at my internship, I was able to IM/chat with several people back in the states. I have been all along, today several were on and chatty.
I also would like to state that I love XM Radio... I have been using my online access daily while I have been over here. I miss having the actual receiver, but the online version works.
In other news, the Det. Red Wings won another game! Go Wings. (When I am not listening to XM, I see if a Wings game is on).
I have made plans for the following weekend as well... I am going to go out to the Blue Mountains... This should be a lot of fun.
A Case of the Mondays?
Naw, Monday went great!
Class was fun... We did a role play / mock debate about Indonesian military funding and training. It was fun. I little rocking in the beginning. However, this is a nice improvement over the professor talking in circles... We do have to write up a one page argument by Monday, but that should be easy enough to do... I will have to e-mail it to him as I will be gone for Townsville.
---> Yes, I am missing a day of class. I saved $73 by flying back Monday and not Sunday. The prof is fine with it too.
This evening, was another chance to relax and watch some "American Dreams" episodes before bed. I found out that the show was called "Our Generation" in Australia, but it wasn't as popular as it was in the States.
Before I know it, Saturday is gone... But its Sunday now and Everything is alright!!
Wonderful relaxing weekend!!
I was able to get caught up on sleep this weekend, even with going out. Friday nights and Saturday nights, I went out with people I have met here in Sydney.
I didn't get drunk but had a chance to socialize and enjoy a few drinks. It was a lot of fun. I hope more weekends in the future work out this way. I also enjoyed the sleeping in part... lol
This weekend also provided me with a chance to finalize my plans for next weekend. I am going up to Townsville to visit Theresa from Albion. She is a good friend from Albion. It will be nice to hang with someone who knows me, my school, and my humor. Being around the Boston University kids is getting boring, they don't understand MI, Albion, or the other stuff I draw from... So, this will be a nice change...
If you can't tell, I am excited... I may be visiting Magnetic Island while I am there.
