American Dreams

Since my last post, I decided to look up to see what time American Dreams is on for the new NBC season... To my dismay, I found that NBC decided to cancel the show!!! I am outraged! What are they thinking? This show was awesome and makes such great connections to the past. I hope that they at least put all the Seasons on DVD for dedicated viewers like myself.

To all of you that watched American Dreams as well, I am sorry that have had to find that NBC canceled the show.

:'( Me = Sad

The Excitement Builds

My title sums up the day.... I am getting excited for my trip to Melbourne.

Class today was ok, but I was so tired. I spent over an hour and a half talking to my grandmother when I should have been sleeping... Oops. But I think it was worth it. So after class I came back and took a nap.

This morning sucked because I got up and wasn't able to take a shower because my roommate was using it right up until it was time to head to class. I hate going to class without showering. I don't feel it is proper. I also see it as disrespectful, but what could I do?

Tonight I got my laundry all done up so I can head out tomorrow evening. (I catch the buss at 7pm). I hate having to pay $3 per wash or dry. I feel like it is highway robbery.

Tonight I decided to relax and watch some of my American Dreams DVD's. I miss watching the show and hope it is back on this year. I also hope that NBC/Universal release some more seasons on DVD.

That is about it...

Autralianisms

A fun list of things I find different from the USA:

1. Ketchup is Tomato sauce and tastes like semi thickened tomato juice... But you can still support the Kerry Campaign and buy Heinz Ketchup
2. The bills (money bills) are a flexible plastic and the coins go up to $2 like Canada
3. Everything is rounder to 5 cents as there are no pennies
4. The toilets have half and full flush buttons
5. Pizza here is nothing like the Pizza back in the States
6. Raisins are Sultanas
7. Redheads are Bluies
8. Females are Shelias
9. Food spoils much quicker as they don't refridgerate as much. ie eggs are on the shelf and bread is only good for 6 days
10. All Area codes are 2 digits and start with a zero unless calling from another country, where the zero is dropped
11. All mobile phone number start with 04 same rules as number 9
12. Zip codes are 4 digits
13. 911 is 000 or if on a mobile phone that has no service, 112
14. Power is 220-240 volts at 50hz. (50hz is less efficient than 60hz)
15. They drive on the opposite side of the road and from the wrong side of the car
16. Green Peppers are Capsicums
17. Burger King is called Hungry Jacks as to not remind them of the Monarchy
18. McDonald's are where you eat inside are called McCafe
19. Fast Food Restaurants have deli sandwiches
20. No tipping required and you are not rushed out of the restaurant after eating
21. Australians do not speak English. They speak Australian as Americans speak American

This list will be updated and added on to as time goes on.

Another Day... Another Dollar

An Apology

Oops... I would like to start out by apologizing to all of those who may read my blog daily. I was too tired last night to type out a post. So, I will try to add yesterday to today.

Tuesday

Tuesday consisted of finishing my travel arrangements at STA Travel for this weekend. The plan is to Leave Sydney by Bus Friday night at 7 and arrive in the morning in Melbourne (When Ozzies say it, they say it as Melbun). I will be staying at a hostel in Melbourne and taking the great Ocean Road tour on Saturday. Sunday and Monday, we are not sure what we are doing. If you have a suggestion... Post a comment with it. Thanks.

After the trip was booked. Maria, Leslie, Annie, and I worked on our group project for the culture trip as it was due today (Wednesday) at 4:00. At 3:20am, I decided to go to bed and that is why I didn't post to my blog yesterday.

Side Note:
While I am in Melbourne, I will not be posting. I will update you all on my trip when I get back as I don't plan on taking my laptop.

Wednesday

This morning starts out with someone knocking on my door to wake my roommate up who is in the shower at the moment. So I finally get up and answer the door to find Will wanting Sidd to meet with his group. I let Will know and he goes away, but comes back again later (Sidd still is in the shower). I don't answer the door. Finally as Sidd is leaving for his group meeting, the repairman come to fix our blinds. I just gave up sleeping and got up 3 hours early. That was a crappy start to the day

My group did our presentation of our project today. It went extremely well. I think most people liked it. The Prof seemed happy... The most important part.

After the presentation... I was able to finally relax and catch up on various things. I got my Retail Access for the month all up to date, so hopefully I can win some more prizes!

Tonight was great, I am currently chatting with friends and I feel connected to people outside of the BU program again.

Monday.... Monday...

So good to me... (You know the rest of the song)

Today was a pretty good day. No class on Mondays, so I get to sleep in!!! Yay!!

Today involved booking my Spring break activities in Cairns (pronounced "cans") I think it will be a blast. I just have to go back on Tuesday around 11 to pick up the paperwork and I will be all set.

I went down to "Little Italy" today... And let me tell you... Little Italy is small... To the tune of 3 blocks. But I had an great dinner. I had the Chicken and peas ravioli. It was the best ravioli I have had since I was in New York City!

Tonight concluded with working on our group project for the Culture class. We have defined out topic and now just have to have it researched and have a presentation prepared by Wednesday. Hopefully we will have it all done tomorrow by a descent hour.

Not too much to report today.

How I almost died today...
1. Eating spicy pizza that Maria ordered
2. Exhaustion from the walk down to Little Italy (we took the bus back home)

Relief

Relief was in the air after finishing my paper!!! I think it turned out pretty well, but I will not know for a about two weeks.

After turning in the paper (45 mins before the deadline...) Leslie, Annie, Maria, and I went down to Chinatown. We had dinner and then went the a Karaoke lounge and sang for two hours. It was a blast! We had out bottle of Little Penguin wine and a private boot to sing. I definitely want to do this again, but next time it is two bottles and three hours. LOL

From there we made our way to Scubar, but it was packed and everyone was watching the game. So... We decided to find another place. We stopped at Scruffy Murphy's but that place is a dive and I don't recommend it to anyone. However, from there we found the Three Wise Monkeys. That place rocked, but it is expensive. We had a great time and they had a live band.

The trip back to Unilodge was uneventful except for finding a restroom. The Mercure
Hotel was kind enough to let us use theirs, for which Maria was grateful.

How I almost died....
1. Falling down the stairs in Three Wise Monkeys carrying Maria
2. Getting hit by a taxi on the way back home.
3. Choking on a Whopper at Hungry Jacks (It is the same as Burger King).
